Jim Hawes

Born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, James R. (“Jim”) Hawes graduated from the
University of
North Carolina at
Chapel Hill in 2004 with a degree in
Journalism and a minor in English. He began
studying law at the University of Richmond in the fall of 2004.
During the summer of 2005, Jim furthered his legal
education by attending the Cambridge University Summer
Law Program in Cambridge, England. The following
summer, Jim clerked for the firm and
was the Research Assistant to Rodney A. Smolla, Dean of
the University of Richmond School of Law. In 2007 upon
graduating Cum Laude from the University of
Richmond School of Law, he accepted a position with the
firm.
Jim’s practice focuses on criminal trial defense,
corporate law and civil litigation in
North Carolina’s state and
federal courts. Mr. Hawes is a Criminal Justice
Act (CIA) Panel Attorney and a member of the North
Carolina Advocate for Justice, the North Carolina State
Bar, and the Wake County Bar Association.
